China advances in the development of combat drones, the CH-3D, to compete in the market dominated by the Turkish-origin Bayraktar TB2.

The CH-3D, created by the state-owned group AVIC, is undergoing flight tests and stands out for features that promise to surpass the TB2, including beyond-line-of-sight control and satellite communication, enabling long-range operations.

The drone features retractable landing gear, greater aerodynamic efficiency, and a flight endurance of up to 20 hours, with a ceiling of 7,200 meters and a cruising speed of 280 km/h. It supports various guided munitions, such as bombs and missiles, making it versatile for reconnaissance, close air support, and precision strikes. These features enhance its competitiveness against the TB2, which has stood out in conflicts in Syria, Libya, Iraq, Nagorno-Karabakh, and Ukraine.

With global demand for armed drones on the rise, China aims to carve out space in the international market by offering a more adaptable and capable system than foreign competitors. The CH-3D represents not only an alternative to the TB2 but also Beijing’s strategy to expand its UAV export presence and challenge Turkey’s leadership in this strategic sector.
